Source code: https://github.com/stufently/save-image-as-type License: MIT - Right-click any image and save it as PNG, JPG or WebP, or use one "Save as default format" item. - Conversion runs in the browser with the Canvas API: no server, no uploads, no analytics. - Quality sliders for JPG and WebP; PNG is always lossless, and JPG gets a white background for transparency. - Works on SVG, data: URLs, blob: URLs, cross-origin and cookie-protected images. - Keeps the original filename and always opens the Save As dialog, so you choose the destination. - Manifest V3 with minimal permissions, localized into 7 languages, open source. ## Documentation - [Save Image As PNG, JPG, WebP — Image Converter](https://stufently.github.io/save-image-as-type/docs/): Chrome extension to save any image from the web as PNG, JPG, or WebP. Fast client-side conversion via Canvas API — no uploads, no servers, 100% private. - [Privacy Policy](https://stufently.github.io/save-image-as-type/docs/privacy/): Save Image As Type - PNG JPG WebP ### How do I convert a WebP image to PNG or JPG in Chrome? Install the extension, right-click the image, choose Save Image As and pick PNG, JPG or WebP. The Save As dialog opens so you choose where the file goes. ### Are my images uploaded to a server? No. The image is decoded, drawn to a canvas and re-encoded with the browser's own Canvas API inside an offscreen document. There is no backend, no upload endpoint, no analytics and no account. ### Why is there no AVIF option? AVIF was removed in v1.2.0: Chrome's canvas.toBlob() cannot encode image/avif, so the option could never work client-side. ### Does it work in Edge, Opera or other Chromium browsers? The extension is Manifest V3 and the same ZIP works in Edge and Opera. It is not published in Edge Add-ons or Opera Add-ons yet, so download the ZIP from GitHub Releases and load it unpacked from the extensions page with Developer mode on. ### Why does it need access to all sites? The extension has to fetch the image you right-clicked, and that image can live on any domain. The scripting permission is used only to read a blob: image URL from the page that created it. ### What settings does it store? Three values in chrome.storage.sync: defaultFormat, jpgQuality and webpQuality. Nothing about which images you saved, which sites you visited or who you are. ## Optional - [Full text of all docs](https://stufently.github.io/save-image-as-type/llms-full.txt)
